Furlani Mino Carbo Rosso 2023

The ‘Mino Carbo’ is one of the newer additions to Matteo’s ever evolving line up of still wines, this being just the second vintage of the bottling to hit US shores, and as always it leans heavily into its alpine heritage. Super fresh and super juicy, the Mino sees the notoriously tangy Marzemino (plus a small percentage of white grapes) subjected to whole-cluster, carbonic maceration, an approach to fermentation often used to soften ‘sharp edges’ and nudge up the fruit elements of the given variety. While this wine may be light in body and color, it packs a wicked punch of lip smacking red fruit; cranberry, just-barely-ripe red cherry, prickly pear and red currant, countered by an intensely ferrous and dusty character, all of which is wrapped neatly wrapped in a crunchy and angular mouthful that screams undeniably of the mountains. This is a wine that is best served cool but not too cold, so a quick 15 minute stint in the cooler should do the trick!
